Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Armani have already abandoned fur, but Gucci’s decision to follow is seen as significant
Gucci has bowed to pressure from animal rights groups and announced that it will go fur-free
It is the latest of several fashion giants to make such a move
In what campaigners hailed as a “game changer” in the fight against the multibillion-pound fur trade, Gucci will no longer use the material from next spring
Marco Bizzarri, its president, said yesterday: “Do you think using furs today is still modern? I don’t think it’s still modern and that’s the reason why we decided not to do that
It’s a little bit out-dated. Creativity can jump in many different directions instead of using furs”
The Humane Society, which negotiated the announcement, said that Gucci was the most influential fashion label to withdraw from the fur industry
